Weston Turville Historical Society
Weston Turville Historical Society
Weston Turville Historical Society was founded in 1999 by a group of like minded people in the village with the intention of promoting an interest in local history by holding lively meetings with a variety of speakers on topics of local or wider historical interest, providing regular outings and by enabling the production of a range of publications recording the people, places and history of Weston Turville.
To coincide with the millennium, lottery funding was used to create a village map, embellished with sketches by David Blackmore, which may be seen at strategic locations in the Village. There is also an associated "Millennium Trail"; leaflet which guides visitors along a one-hour route around the heart of the village, describing a range of historical topics of interest.
The Society has created a Village Archive that has recently been relocated from the John Colet School in Wendover to the Village Hall in Weston Turville. It may be viewed by contacting the Society in order to make an appointment. Please also feel free to contact the Society if you have access to any photographs, maps, or any documents that would be of local historical interest and that can be copied and placed into the archive.
Documents within the archive, not subject to copyright restrictions, are being scanned and added to this website. The website also has a search feature giving the opportunity to carry out investigations into family history, burial records and buildings of historical interest. A large number of old local postcards have been scanned and placed on the site allowing the public to see the many changes that have taken place in and around the village over the years.
