1) Weston Turville Village fete is being held on from 12 to 5pm on Saturday 21st June 2014 at the Memorial Playing Fields and Village Hall. This year’s entertainment includes: Free Fun Dog Show (more details next week); BBQ; Teas; Craft Stands; Plant Sales; Pony Rides; Face Painting; Children’s Games; Bouncy Castle; Raffle; Beer Tent; Thames Valley Police; Model T Ford; Games for the Older Child to Enjoy; Zumba Dancing; Cakes for Sale; Paint Ball Shooting Range and the Weston Turville ‘Great War Commemoration’ exhibition. Plus more. Entry to the village fete is £1 and children under 14 years of age enter for free. Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
2) Free Fun Dog Show at the Weston Turville Village Fete. The dog show starts at 2pm but you can take part in ‘doggy games’ whilst you wait! Show Classes include; Best Puppy; Best Biscuit Catcher; Handsomest Dog; Best Trick; Prettiest Bitch; Waggiest Tail; Best Veteran; and Best Rescue. There will also be a doggy hamper from Waitrose for the winner of the Judges Choice. There are rosettes and prizes for the first three places in each category supplied by this year’s local sponsors and Judges: Bracken Fields, Premier Day Care, Home Boarding and Training; Walk The Dog, Award Winning Dog Behaviour and Training and Beacon Pet Care, Dog Walking, Dog Behavioural Consultancy, 1-2-1 and Group Dog and Puppy Training, Day Care and Dog sitting. Also attending is prize winning ‘Woofography Dog Portraiture’ who can take pictures of your precious pets. The dog show is free for all entrants and there is no restrictions on how many classes you can enter.
3) The Weston Turville ‘Great War’ Commemoration exhibition is being held at this year’s village fete on Saturday 21st June 2014 from 12 to 5pm. There will be several exhibits from the period and an explanation on how the war changed the village forever. There are biographies of those people who made the ultimate sacrifice and are mentioned on the war memorial. Out of a total population of 737 parishioners in 1911 (details from the census returns), 80 able bodied men enlisted to fight the cause to stop the perceived tyranny and oppression. Just under a quarter of these men were killed or died from wounds and sickness caused by the war. The exhibition has been put together with the assistance of Weston Turville Historical Society (www.wthsoc.org.uk) , Weston Turville U3A (www.wtu3a.org.uk) , Buckinghamshire Remembers (www.buckinghamshireremembers.org.uk) and St Mary’s Church.
