WTHSoc 27th May 2016 Change of Speaker and Topic
Post date: 27-May-2016 08:11:58
Unfortunately, Mark Williams (Wessex Archaeology), our speaker for this evening’s meeting on “Local Archaeological Projects” has had to cancel. We know many of you were particularly interested in this topic and have attempted to find an alternative speaker from Wessex or Pheonix (the company responsible for the current archaeological activity between New Road and Aston Clinton Road) without success.
At short notice, Hugh Granger has volunteered to stand in this evening with his popular “The Reeve’s Tale” lecture. His talk is about life in an English village of 1450, seen through the eyes of the Reeve, who was the link between the Squire and the community. It covers their customs, farming methods, housing, architecture, family life, diet, pottery and social structures and ends with the tale of how a village mystery was solved. Hugh is a regular and popular speaker in Weston Turville, we are really grateful for his offer.
Meeting starts at 20:00 in the Village Hall (Doors open at 19:30) and is open to all. Entrance £2 for members, £3 for visitors including refreshments.
